Im playing Mentak, neighbors with Hacan that has 14 trade goods, never once has the game asked me if I wanted to pillage. I went in the timing settings and didnt see it as an offer.
Am I missing something?

I looked in the logs and apparently the game is just choosing to pillage for me. The ability is a "may" so this feels kind of broken.

On your faction sheet, there should be a button below the Pillage power.
Click it, and you can customize Pillage behavior.

Thanks I did miss this.
I’m having a hard time understanding the commodity pillages though, because I thought the effect was only triggered if someone had 3 trade goods.

You are correct, but Pillage allows Mentak to take a trade good OR a commodity as long as the target player qualifies.
If Mentak wants to be nicer (to avoid making enemies), but still keep the game flowing quickly, they can choose:
"Only for commodity": Mentak will use Pillage if the target has a commodity, since that does not hurt them much. Mentak will automatically skip Pillage if the target has only trade goods.
"Always, prefer commodity": Same as above, but if the target has 0 commodities then Mentak will take the trade good. This is still nicer than always taking a trade good which always hurts the target.

Thank you! I actually never knew all these years you could go after commodities. (Even though it says it on the sheet)
