When starting a game we see is no way to assign a side to a player. One of us has been given Athens about 80% of the time and we would prefer to alternate.

The nature of BGA is that it doesn't allow for choosing player order in any game. However, if it seems that one player is receiving one side more often than the other, a solution is to propose to abandon the game collectively, and restart. Abandoning the game does not affect rankings.
