Does arena not use ELO for matchmaking?

I am ~400 elo and just instantly matched with a brand new 100 elo player. The game was not close at all and was not really fun for either player. This seems to happen fairly often as well.

I would understand matching with opponents with much different elo after waiting for a long time but instantly matching makes no sense. Curious if anyone knows how the matchmaking works and if this is an issue in other games as well? Burgundy is popular enough that I'm sure better matchmaking is possible with some queue time.

Love the game just wish I could primarily play against similarly rated opponents!

No, it does not. The only thing used in matchmaing for arena is arena rank.

And only if you set up Arena filters for this game when you search for a table.

Huh I just checked and the player was not ranked at all and I definitely did arena search. Maybe a bug or they were searching for a long time already. Thanks for the info.
