Indefinite Game Stalling Using Trades (Turn-Based)

I'm currently at a table that has a 1 turn a day timer set. There's a player within the group that is using trades to prolong the game after losing the race to a settlement location. For some reason within turn-based whenever you send out a trade that counts as your turn so you can get the time added back onto it every time you send out a trade. I understand why the clock doesn't run while your opponents are deciding on the trade, but it doesn't make much sense to give back time on your clock for each trade offer you give. For some context the game has now been going on for almost 30 days and 1st place has 3 VP. We are roughly on "move" 300 since each trade request is also considered a move.

Basically, is there anything I can do, or is this table just going to have to live out the rest of our lives?

Table # and player name will not be given since I believe that's against the rules.

You should be able to block trade requests after 3 trade attempts.
I appreciate that this means you have to wait a week to move on, but it isn't indefinate.
Obviously all the players have to request the attempts to get the game to speed up, but at least you wont be getting updates.

In this sort of circumstance I usually just open another table or 10, and get on with playing other games. This one will finish eventually, but there's no point keeping it as some sort purgery for yourself.

The OP has described the game in sufficient detail that it is easy to find.

In fact, you can block trade requests at any time, and the OP seems to have figured that out. Hopefully the other players will as well if needed.

Trading is absolutely a thing in Catan and has been known to have been used by competent players. The trading requests in this game seem legitimate to me, and I've been in games with even more insistent traders whose motives I did not question.

I think the crux of the matter is that trading in a 1-move-a-day game makes Catan an excruciating experience, and I try to avoid it. :D

Yeah I’ve now scouted the player’s stats. It seems they offer trade requests at a rate about 3x the average. I’m thinking now it’s unlikely to be malicious, but definitely tone deaf for turn based catan as you’ve pointed out. I like trading even on turn based just since it’s an important aspect of the game, but man when you’re doing 3 or more requests every single turn it gets pretty rough. I basically just put a red thumb on them so they don’t match into my tables again. Oh well
