Board Game Arena

Hi everyone,

Sorry, I’m not very familiar with the BGA forum, so I’m not sure if this is the right place to post.

I live in Japan, and I’ve been experiencing problems with my internet connection while playing on BGA. The connection sometimes drops completely, or the response time becomes very slow. This has been getting worse recently.

I don’t have any problems with my connection speed on other websites, so I’m wondering if there might be an issue with BGA’s servers or the connection between Japan and BGA.

Recently, it has become quite difficult to finish games, which is a real pity.

Are there any other people living in Japan experiencing the same problem? Is there anything we can do about it?

We have also problems from time to time, playing in France.

Yeah connecting via wifi seems to block connection. 5G with phone works like a charm.

I suppose that in this case, it is your wifi that is in trouble.

Could be, could be not. Wifi provider in Finland (DNA) informed that they have not made changes / blacklisted any sites, but know that some sites have blocked them earlier. Two different computers, two different operating systems, two apartments, multiple browsers and unable to connect to bga (only website that does not function) unless using mobile hotspot. Problem was noticed on 11th of August, everything worked late in 10th.

EDIT: Ooops I was thinking I was replying to another thread about the same subject! Disregard the "this case" part, otherwise the reply is relevant.

I know of this site, but in this case the problem does not seem to be at BGA (according to that site, everything is fine). Also, other ways can connect. It is something on the route from some places (some ISPs) to BGA.

It's weird that it seems to be BGA specific (... or at least somewhat, but it's totally plausible it's more wide but I'm just not using services on the same "block" of the internet).

Hence, my theory of an IP address range block. It could be a mistake (too paranoid automatic banning) or perhaps just we unlucky users happen to be in a same block where some malicious user(s) happen to be.

Yeah no problems in WIFI. TLS handshake was failing when trying to connect to BGA. Didn't ever get response to hello client from BGA. Probably some firewall configuration change on BGA side, however it's working now so they have fixed it.
