Did I misunderstand or is this a bug?

In game Table #905659192 I had all three accounts confirm the motive for Greg as the financial motive, so I checked all three boxes. I had a suspicion G was the culprit. But then I got a police confirmation that the motive was NOT financial. This made me eliminate Greg as the culprit (i.e. his motive was indeed the financial one, but he was not the culprit).
In the end, the solution was revealed as Greg as the culprit, but with another motive (this motive was indicated by one other person). How is this possible? Did both people AND the investigation card (spyglass) lie about his financial motive?
