Red votes

I found this site a couple of days ago and have just played a handful of games, but today a player gave me a red vote just because I won him with a couple of lucky rolls, and now that vote prevent me to join most games because I just have 4 more votes. I tried to report him and the system tells me that giving a red vote is subjective and it´s no cause of report. That's an obvious flaw in the system. Either you force players to be responsible with their downvotes or you don´t take them into account till the player have cerntain amount of total votes, but allowing one sore loser to ruin the site for a new players doesn´t seem to be the right way to go.

You were just unlucky. I think you'll find though that there are plenty of players who will be willing to play you with your one red vote. (I don't count red votes against a player until they've accumulated a large number of them).

If there's a table you wish to join, you can also ask the players at the table in the table's chat. They can then invite you in if they want to.

I'd say just play a few games. It shouldn't be long until you are at the 90% good threshold again.

BGA has implemented a restriction on red thumb giving. You can't give more than 10% red thumbs.
So there is already something that forces players to be responsible with their down votes.

That is not fair either. Maybe I don't like to play again with that player (for some reason). What should I do? Use paper and pencil?

You can always add a personal note regarding someone.

There are a few players that I play against who play VERY slowly. I put this in a personal note to myself. If I don't have time, I don't play with them. If I do have time, I do play with them.

There is no need to give them a Red Thumb.

When you finish the game and return to the main menu (which actually returns you to the game-end page), under the thumb is a place to put a personal note. Just edit that. It won't show to anyone but you. So if you see that person on a game invite, that note will show up and remind you of your opinion/experience with them. And you can use this for good notes as well. I made notes also for people who kept up with their turns really well and stuff like that. Or you could make a note they were helpful in teaching a new game, or just whatever, good or bad.

There's also no need to NOT give them a red thumb.

No Liallan is right. Red thumb is overused, sometimes for ridiculous reasons. At the beginning of this game site, it was the only choice to remind you not to play with someone.

But since the creation of personal note, there is no excuse to spit red thumbs like a gatling gun.
Sometimes, when, players systematically quits (quits, not concede!) or insuts, ok , red thumb is appropriate. Or, when someone puts you a clearly abused red thumb

But on other hand, there a plenty of bad reasons to give it
For example, some people don't like when players concede, others don't care at all.

So putting a red thumb just for conceding is ridiculous. Use the fonction that was clearly created for such things: the personal note!!

Red thumb should be universal criteria: concede is not one. Chat use neither (execept for trash talk). Example: one time I received a red thumb because I talked too much in a chat, another time I received one because I was too silent!!!!!

Morality: PERSONAL NOTE IS GOOD

The red thumbs system is totally flawed. Totally.
I played some 30 matches of Puerto Riko, most of them with 3 players. That makes some 50 unique players I played with.
My stats show 14 green thumbs and 5 red ones. Of the 5 red thumbs, I know for sure that at least 3 were only for revenge, or because some player (always fellow countrymen, which I eventually reported) had been so rude or aggressive to force me to quit the game.

The system should assign green thumbs by default or even better force players to give a vote (either green or red) to counterbalance red thumbs given by childish players.
It's far more likely to get red ones than green ones. Knowing how punishing the system is, someone angry or upset with you, will certainly give you a red thumb, when the opposite is definitely not true (if one is fine with a player, but she's not forced to give a vote, she will hardly feel the need to give a green thumb).
