Legacy Games?

Hi there!

I apologize if this has been asked; a search revealed that the phrase "legacy" is overloaded and applies to site changes, old games, old code, and a number of other things, so I'm just going to ask in a new thread.

I'm trying to find games to play with a friend of mine, who's expressed an appreciation for longer-term, iterative play, which I'm interpreting to largely mean "Legacy"-style games in the vein of Pandemic Legacy. It would also include longer term play like Gloomhaven or Frosthaven. We've enjoyed Kingdom Death: Monsters before as well, but doing that digitally is becoming a minefield of developer restrictions and frustrations around pricing.

The closest option I see in the games search is the "campaign" option in mechanisms, but it seems to omit some results I consider quite reasonable, like Zombicide.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I know BGA can store some amount of stateful information between games - my Zombicide has a dropdown that says which scenarios I've completed in the past. I don't know if that's been implemented for other games, or if there's mostly licensing issues around that sort of game, or... I invite information! Educate me, please! :D

My City probably fits. It's a campaign of 24 games with slight adjustments to the rules each game (everything from new ways to score, sometimes replacing old ones, to entirely new mechanics). And there's a degree of legacy between games as stickers are given to each player based on their rankings - basically winners get things made a bit harder, lower places get things made a bit easier, etc. There's also My City: Roll and Build which has a similar thing on a campaign of 12 games, but I think the original is probably more in line with what you're describing as legacy.

There's also Welcome to the Moon, which has a set of 8 different adventures, which are entirely different ways of playing. They're not really interconnected though, but there is a tenuous kind of story overarching the 8 different modes. But the board state is not altered by previous games at all, so not entirely legacy, but it kind of scratches that itch a bit for me.

I might be totally wrong, but the thing is the type of games you are talking about take a lot of turns to finish, which could partly explain why there is a reluctance to have them on the website. In tournaments especially, games need to be over within a set period of time, so those games may not be the best fit for competitive play on here.

Then again I might be off, since there's probably already games that take a similar amount of turns that have been published here. But they are more the exception I think.

Yeah, Pandemic Legacy, for example, would likely take months.

My City took months.

But the main reason there aren't many here may be that there just aren't that many legacy games out there. People act like it's a big trend, but it's surely <1% of all games published.

Some games with different scenarios are Sky Team and Dedale (good with 2 players), The Crew and The Crew Deep Sea (can be played as a 2 player, but I wouldn't recommend to do so). All of them are fun to play.

Jump Drive has a solo system that keeps track of your stats over multiple games in a single campaign.
