why didn't i get a penalty? was it removed?

So, a few days ago I had to leave my computer immediately without having a chance to tell my fellow players about it. Shouldn't happen, of course - but it did happen.
So as I had understood previously the remaining players had two options when they had waited for the five minutes: expel me and carry on with the game (should trigger a time penalty on my record) or abandon the game (should trigger a time penalty and a leave penalty)
But they carried on with the game and I have no penalty at all! How can that be?
What didn't I understand about the new rules?
