If someone is being an idiot, I should be able to call them that without getting a 10 day ban and a karma penalty.

When did sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me stop becoming relevant.

The rules should change to tell people to grow up and not get so upset over words.

Threatening violence is one thing, that should be moderated and banned.

But other than that, why can't we just tell people to grow up and get over it when they feel insulted.

I can see what you mean. Rules against ableism are important because that's discrimination. But just calling someone an idiot, not using any term that alludes to ableism, is something different. People can be idiotic, and equating claims of idiocy with ableism is what seems ableist.

Of course, it may still be against the rules to call someone an idiot, but the reason is not because of ableism, but rather because it falls under rude talk that should not be accepted.

You are telling other people to grow up and not get upset. True maturity means having the emotional regulation to express frustration or disagree without resorting to childish namecalling. If you lack the self-control to follow basic community guidelines, you deserve the 10-day ban and the karma penalty

grow up and not get so upset over words
Grow up and don't get so upset over poor play in an online game. Why the need to lash out at someone over an ultimately meaningless game?

Calling someone names, whatever the word, is never a good solution. Remaining courteous, polite and respectful is what should matter to all of us.
