Board Game Arena

I am getting requests all the time when I'm playing with so and so suggests you join a game. Is there a way to turn off these notifications? I can't find it in my preferences. Even just having no sound assigned to it would be fine. Thanks.

So I guess it's just me then that is annoyed by this...

You only get them from games that you "want to play" and each table can only send to you once. Close out some of the games on your want to play list (by clicking the subdued gray X button below the bright green Play button) and you'll get no requests from that game.

In some games where there's not a huge following yet, I'll get invites a lot. There just aren't enough players to fill each table instantly. Good game, I just don't always want to jump in on it (Time Masters is the most obvious one of these. So great, but damn, it's intense.)

Personally, if I'm trying to have a table fill, I don't send suggestions to people in another table because what are they gonna do, get up and leave a live game of Through The Ages just to jump into my 6 Nimmt? Also, like you say, it's irritating. I don't want to make potential players think I'm a jerk.

As far as I have understood the problem isn't that he gets notifications. The problem is he gets them while playing.

I do get them, too, sometimes. And that really shouldn't be the case as I'm not available at that time. Even if I wanted to join I can't (as I'm in another game) so the system really shouldn't allow anyone to send me suggestions. Or maybe all those suggestions one receives midgame are from turnbased games? idk, if that could be possible but they seem to be realtime ones

Yes. That must be it. Lately I've been only playing turn based games and I get them then. The tip about removing from my "want to play" list is helpful though, I'll do that. Thanks both of you.

The problem with that is that you can't (as far as I can see) join or host a game without it being in that list. So I'd much rather just leave my commonly played games always on in that list. Otherwise it becomes an extra step that is a bit of a nuisance. If I'm browsing turn based games, I'd have to add, say, 10 games to the list, join, then remove them all.

It would be nice to have a separate "Looking for a game" list, and a separate "Show me games X" list, or better yet, just let us turn off the notifications.

Edit: I've always been puzzled by the "want to play" option. Seemed strange and clunky. But it just occurred to me that I guess it makes much more sense in a real time (likely one game at a time) site. As an exclusively turn based player, I guess that's why I find it annoying, for the reason stated above.
