Just as an aside, I believe the public strategies/tips is more harmful than helpful to new players. To keep it simply I would think about the game as trying to maximize your points and minimize your opponents each turn or for the long term. Sometimes it is more straightforward counting points for just the round at hand and other times you have to think critically which scoring item will be most important and assess that into your bidding turn strategy. Genies are more critical on a more balanced board, whereas resources sometimes allow the most flexibility later in the game (but could also be the opposite in certain situations). Having the anchor (last) bid is a position of power. You want your round as the anchor bid to be more valuable than your opponent's round with anchor bid. Any player needs to at base know all the genies and what they do. It takes 10 minutes to read the cards. Flexibility is key in this game. You need a good primary plan and a solid backup plan if the opponent blocks the primary plan.

Lastly (in a 2 player game) stop chasing yellows early unless you really don't have a better move. Unless you get the yellow genie, collecting those early limit the benefit of collecting them later and make your total a target for opponent planning. People also get obsessed with winning the points from tiles on board, when that is really only most valuable when resources/genies influence is more muted. Whites, greens, blues are safer opening. Red can close a game in a sudden and is safe points. Yellow is often critical, but once again a majority of the time it is better to save that for end game strategy based on circumstance (don't take this advice of always avoiding yellow if someone gives you a good cheap opportunity early, just think critically first)
