Never played this game but as I understand it is quite long to play? Is it even doable to finish a turnbased game, it must take like months?

It depends on the player count and how often those players log in to make a move.

I think I have played as fast as 1 week with 3 dedicated players, or in rare cases a game might last many months.

If players are in similar timezones for play hours, I would roughly estimate 1 month might be normal.

try to play with other people who have successfully completed games. when a game does finish note the ppl in it and invite them to future tables you create.

Hi, this is a long post for me to say it’s long but amazing for me.

I’m a dad and no way can I get any more than an hour dedicated to myself, so turn based has saved my life. I check my phone from time to time and put in my moves then move on with my fatherly duties.

With that said, it takes a long time. In my fastest game (with people I have played with before and won’t leave) set to the fastest timer. It took us a month and a week or two. If the turns are slower, like one move per day, then it would take more like 2 months or more. This also depends how fast people are scoring their objectives. So far my longest game was round 6 status phase.

Also, when first playing, you might come across people who just stop playing or time other players out right as their timer hits zero. I try not to play with those people. Usually if they’re active on the chat, they’re good to play with.

It's very hit or miss depending on how fast people are. I'd expect most games to take anywhere between a month to three months. Also I'd expect the majority of your games to end with someone quitting early, which is also an understandable given the huge time commitment and that there's no other easy way to concede or drop out.

Speaking of which; before I commit, what exactly does ‘a turn’ mean as a speed setting for TI4?
Does it refer to a full complete turn or does it refer to player interaction in general? Having 8 player interaction moments per day is something completely different to 8 full turns a day, for example.

Each "turn" per BGA, is a single interaction with the game.

So if you have it set to 3 turns a day. It'll start each player with a 24 hr clock. Any time, that player has the option to interact, 8 hrs is added to their clock to a maximum of 24.

The interface does let you preplan some actions. Like when a strategy card is played, you have the option to lock in your response even if its not your turn yet, and then it'll auto process your choice when your turn comes up.
