Is there not an option for a tie?

It seems that the game always ends immediately when one person returns home or finds their last treasure, no matter who had the first turn. I am not 100% sure, but it would be a weird coincidence if the sole winner was always the last one to do their first turn. It seems a tad unfair, as sometimes someone else is also one move away from winning and they could potentially tie.

Its a kid's game from the 80s. A classic. You can't expect perfect balance from a game like that.

I know it's a classic, I've played it at home since my childhood in the '90s, though I've never thought about it particularly as a "kid's game".
Anyway I was talking about its iteration here on BGA. Is there something preventing a tie in the original version then?

Yes, the rules say the game is over when the first player has reached the goal and that player wins. So it can't be tie. You could only house-rule that. Same with playing for 2nd.

That seems crazy, can't the setting be changed here anyway? I just tried a two-player game where you could find the treasures in any order you wanted. We both found a treasure at every turn. Since they were the one to start, they got 12/12 during their last turn, and I could have tied if I had had the same number of turns. It is very unequal.

BGA only allows official game variants. According to the current Labyrinth rules, there's no official tie variant, so the first player to collect all their treasures wins.
Usually, in the endgame, it becomes much easier to block your opponent from reaching their remaining treasures.

When the opponent is 12/12, your priority is to isolate them. Here's a replay
https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=935889616. I am 11/12 and the opponent is 12/12. I still managed to win. I prioritized isolating them. At some point he made a mistake of not checking my path, and not isolating me, so I won.

Exactly this! Specially when both of you are 11/12, you know what treasure they are going for. You can prioritize isolating them, meanwhile moving bit by bit closer to your treasure.
