Hey, not really sure if it's a bug or if it's supposed to be that way, thus I'm posing here:

I just sat down on a realtime table (2-4 players) with just the op being there. Op then changed the speed to turn based and immediately started the game, there was no way for me to get out of it or even state that I didnt want to do it.

Is that really the way this is supposed to work? Sounds like a pretty bad setup to me, and that is even exploitable by players/trolls who then utilize the fact that a player may not be online every day and kick him when he is out of time to gain elo or just mess with the other player or whatever their reasons might be (As the second player intended to play a realtime game, not a turn based one)

It's not a bug at least

if the amount of requested players by the op is reached and the game is changed to turn based it just starts automatically. I sometimes use it by opening a table in real time. As that leaves time to discuss which setup we want then when we have agreed on the setup change the game to turn based and it starts directly.

it's bit lame if peeps going to exploit this for dragging peeps into playing turn based :S. Even more fear of joining tables as i really dislike turn based. (yes i just said we switch to turn based but we finish the game in the same evening. Turn based just creates enough time to have a chat and sometimes teach the rules etc).

But yeah its not a bug, it's intended to work that way. So no1 has to wait till every1 has clicked on accept before their turn-based game starts.

I get it with the being able to start it early. Makes sense.

But it really doesn't make sense to keep people seated without confirmation from their side during the switch from real time to turn based.

The funny thing is this way people dont even have to click on accept for the text about keeping playing not quitting, yaddayaddayadda. Because for real time it would have happened in the starting process for turn based while sitting down. Does that mean I can now just quit without penalty? - I never agreed on the keeping playing thing for this game

I agree with qwertasdfg. it doesn't make sense, and it is very inconvenient.

I'm curious, what happened later? Did you propose to abandon the game? Did your opponent accepted?

I'm still in the game, opponent plays very occasionally. It isn't unbelievably bad for me as I have some other turn based games anyway so I didn't propose to abandon, especially because the opponent is quite new to the site. Playing this game in turn based is really weird as it normally requires some short term memory.

So I'm asking more for the general thing, not for this match

yeah, changing any settings without agreement is definitely impolite. Would be nice if everyone had to click "ready", and if any settings are changed, it resets the "ready" flag.

That being said, I do get notifications about committing to completing the game in both turn based and real-time. I find they aren't consistent though, so I'm not sure what the criteria is. Perhaps I only got them in turn based when it was the first time playing a game?

Nope. It comes up every time you join a turn-based game. (When you click the Join button.)

I agree... changing this once someone has accepted the game is not only impolite, but just shouldn't be allowed at all. If someone didn't agree to the new time setting, they should not have to play.

Thought so. Those times I wasn't sure I saw it, I probably just absent minded clicked on it and agreed out of habit (you know, like we do on Terms of Service agreements )

Unfortunately, this is still the same. Joined a realtime game, while sitting down it got changed to turn based. You really shouldnt allow that as it now forces me to look back into this site every two days against my will. Sorry to say so, but this system is really messed up

some kind of notification that table settings have been changed since joining would be helpful. the popup code used for the collective abandonment could be used whenever the table owner makes a change where players are already joined at the table.

what happened to me:
joined a 6 nimmt tactics pro table .. owner changed it to standard pro while i was in another tab and there was no notification of this change before i accepted the game start. i gave out a batch of red thumbs after i was kicked while waiting for my collective abandon proposal to be effected.
