Good game but too long at first to 31

Admittedly I'm new to the game and am yet to understand how to play effectively but being the first to 31 feels way too long especially on bga with the rules around playing special cards and waiting for an opponent to potentially cancel their power.

Chu Han is a game with a nice learning curve, and good players can score points quickly, for example by collecting sets of 2s...

Another issue is that players are becoming less and less willing to wait.

I don't doubt that there are ways to score well. I've had experience of being able to play out a hand in five or six turns, catching my opponent with a handful of cards and scoring double digits in a round. The standard round score seems too be lower though and needing to win five or six rounds to win the game feels - unnecessarily - a bit of a grind at times.

I guess I still remain to be convinced that shorter and punchier might not be better and if I was playing a physical game house ruling to 20 / 25 would increase my enjoyment.
