We'd like to test our "Swiss-system" tournament mode, using Tash-Kalar game.
We need participant to this tournament. You
can register here (limited space).
Tournament characteristics are: 3 games on June 10th at 20:00, 21:00 and 22:00 CEST. All in realtime, with a fixed global time limit of 30 minutes by player. High form style, 2 players with a random selection of schools. Everyone plays 3 matches, 1 point per victory. The system try to select an opponent that has the same number of point than you. For the final ranking winners are untied using the sum of points of their opponents first, and the average ELO ranking of their opponent second.
Don't hesitate to post here afterward your opinion about this tournament mode, what worked well and what didn't.

Would it be possible to use player selection mode for choosing school? Assuming this is 1v1 I strongly prefer playing empire over the other two schools, and it is always possible to pick so no unfair advantage there.

Why no tournament in turn based mode?

Have fun waiting for the next month(s) for feedback if you do this in turn-based.
Cheers,
Sawyer

Okay, I have some feedback.
It was my first Swiss tournament, and I won't pretend to fully understand how the system works, but one thing i am pretty confident about is that you need to rethink is how to treat players who didn't stick to the end (or didn't appear at all). As far as I can tell from the table of results, there were 14 players who either didn't show up, or ran out of time, in their first game (and further 2 in their second). All of them were disqualified from the next rounds, which makes sense, and the players who had been pitted against them were given a victory (which is not very elegant, but I don't have any better ideas)... unless two such soon-to-be-disqualified players met one another. Then both would be awarded 0.5 points, as if they tied. I see no justification for that, shouldn't they have 0 points each? This 0.5 unfairly boosts not only their final rankings but, even more irrationally, the rankings of anyone who had managed to play against them before they left (because of the first tie-breaker).

The tournament went smoothly, one minor point:
When opponent doesn't turn up the game ends with a message containing the words 'unexpected error', it would be more user friendly to show a message containing 'a win due to opponent not showing up' or something like that, but again this is something minor.
Now concerning the actual tournament, it was fun although i find playing 3 games of Tash-Kalar directly after each other a bit much for my brains. One game is already tense. I would prefer playing max 1 game per evening / day.
I have no issues with the scoring system, i like it the way it is.

I agree. I lost all my matches but I arrived behind someone left the game, it's unacceptable. Swiss mode is a beautiful way, I think it' s better all matches in one evening. That evening people knows what will do, occupy more evenings will raise number of those who abandon. I think that you can give the chance to open swiss tournements to those who pay annual amount will increase players who pay !!
