Idea for optional rule for Lords of Xidit turn based

I'm loving the game. when playing turn based though, the census can seriously slow down the game.

I'd love to see an option during game setup to condense census to one step. Players would decide how many of all types of meeples they want to reveal at the same time, rather than having to wait to see the results of each step. Rewards would still be passed out according to the normal sequence.

I feel this would significantly speed up the game without having a big impact on gameplay.

Maybe I'm just missing part of the strategy, but I don't see the number of peasants you reveal having an impact on the number of archers I choose to reveal.

it has to do with which monsters you will be capable of combating in future turns.

the waiting between census in turn-based games is definitely annoying though ...

So if someone reveals no peasants and you know they can't tackle the monster you're eyeing, (or at least you THINK they can't) you feel safer showing off the wizard in your pocket...

I get it, but I don't see choosing the types one by one or all at once to make a massive tactical difference... It just changes what factors into your decision. And for people like me who get irritated when it takes a week or longer to get through a census, I thought it would be a cool option to have (basically a checkbox during setup like when you decide on expansions to use).

+1 for suggestion.

I understand why the rule is there in the base game, but in Turn-based it simply takes too long to census. There needs to be an option for quicker play for turn-a-day players. The way it is, the game spends more time in census than in actual gameplay.

+1 To proposal.

Another option would be one census step to pick which items to reveal or not and then resolve all of them in order.

I believe that's what KarmanMonkey was suggesting, unless I'm misinterpreting.

I like the idea, especially adding it as an option to gameplay setup. I can understand fringe cases where it might make a difference, but 99.9% of the time I feel like I'd rather just pick them all at once.

At least make it so we don't have to confirm when there is nothing to be shown. That might save a bit of time

That was my thought at first but then your opponents know for certain that you don't have any of a certain type if they see that when the next step of the census starts your selection is immediately made. It's rarely going to matter in this game, in my opinion, but I assume that's the reason for forcing you to select when you have no one to show.

I think on last census when game ends, all pieces should be shown automatically since i can't think of any reason to hide any pieces then.
