Re: King of Tokyo: great potential, great disappointment.

First, King of Tokyo is a light-hearted game. It's not chess, Go or Campaign for North Africa. That said, there are SO many different winning strategies you can pursue. For instance, you might be able to buy a card that gives you healing abilities, even if you are in Tokyo. Even if you don't, if you...

Re: Board Game Arena, Catan, virtual dice and randomness - a short trial

It seems that I confused two very similar posts, and I apologize for it. Yet I notice you haven't answered to the questions I've asked. I don't have an infinite amount of time to respond in detail to all replies, so I've prioritised replies where people (i) seem to have read my posts in detail and ...

Re: Is it possible to avoid playing with trade-hiders?

Wow. It's only a matter of time before someone gets compared to a Nazi. Happy to clear the air, somewhat. 1. IF you want to win, you should only ever accept a trade when it increases your chances of beating the person offering the trade. Helping other people build and buy cards usually helps them wi...

Re: Board Game Arena, Catan, virtual dice and randomness - a short trial

I'm not sure about everything here, but my understanding is that you examined individual numbers over 20 games to see if anything was exceptionally above or below the expected rolls. It occurs to me that rolling one number an above average amount of times and another number a below average amount o...

Just in case some people didn't read all my posts: Rolling 2s: Count of 9 from 102 rolls Odds of event: 1 in 452 games Rolling 3s: Count of 0 from 102 rolls Odds of event: 1 in 340 games Rolling 9s: Counts of 21 from 99 rolls, 28 from 102 rolls Odds of events: 1 in 380 games, 1 in 230,177 games Roll...

Re: Board Game Arena, Catan, virtual dice and randomness - a short trial

I feel pretty happy to respond to euklid314 - his handle has both my favorite Greek mathematician and the first three digits of pi :) I have Euclid's Elements on my bookshelf. My conclusion: muntzer found an unlikely event in his 20 games which has a probability of only 1.2%. Quite an unlikely event...

Re: Board Game Arena, Catan, virtual dice and randomness - a short trial

And yet, you miss the point entirely: The real concern isn't whether the RNG is flawed, because we know it is up to a certain standard... The question is, whether it is actually more or less flawed than real dice throws, for a real game of Catan. If the BGA implementation is actually fairer than a ...

Re: Board Game Arena, Catan, virtual dice and randomness - a short trial

What always amazes me in this kind of thread, is that you pretty much all compare results from dice throws that were done in Excel, while we know for a fact that dice throws in BGA don't come from Excel. What always amazes me are the people who debunk analysis without understanding the method used ...

Re: Dice roll - many repeat rolls

I didn't reply because I went to bed. There are things called time zones. I don't understand your calculations in your last post. Actually, I don't understand what you are trying to demonstrate at all. I'm fine with anyone offering an alternative point of view. But it's annoying when someone dismiss...

Re: Dice roll - many repeat rolls

Going through it more thoroughly, yes - the odds of ANY number appearing five times in a row during a game of 100 rolls is:

0.000159% + 0.005081% + 0.038580% + 0.162577% + 0.496145% + 1.234568% + 0.496145% + 0.162577% + 0.038580% + 0.005081% + 0.000159% = 2.6397% or one in every 38 games.
