Re: Arena is rigged

Certainly it can be frustrating when the tickets or locomotives seem to favor your opponent. Any correlation with ELO is most likely a coincidence. Even if higher ELO biased towards better tickets, it would still be completely fair. The solution in any case is to improve your personal skills in orde...

Re: How would you describe playstyles?

As aside related to the newly posted game, but how's 6 colorless compared to 6 yellow for you? It's the poster child for the generic good slot, a standard eastern ticket add-in going north, and a generic funnel for any cut off color even if it doesn't quite fit into the main path. As it turns out i...

Re: How would you describe playstyles?

I'm not sure what you mean by 2 ticket points, why are you subtracting? I was surprised to see you pick the Boston Ticket over the Winipeg Ticket. You basically exchange the Houston-New Orleans for Montreal-Boston, though there is a commitment extension, but mostly for things you're already aiming ...

Re: How would you describe playstyles?

My 2 cents: I think against that kind of opponent you had to try to interact more and/or go faster. Your route is quite well optimized, but it's still 11 turns (10 claims + 1 overdraw). That's an amount of turns that as you see allows a lucky opponent to easily draw and complete multiple long ticke...

Re: How would you describe playstyles?

Makes sense. Just had a game where I feel like I polished my tickets to perfection and it's still not enough. https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=844033246 I suppose I need more experience blocking the short routes (or simply racing for <30 turns and accepting the point loss). And far more freque...

Re: How would you describe playstyles?

Hmm, fair enough. I am seeing that Alfreddd likes to keep a lot of tickets. Maximizing points per turn with fewer trains / cards rather than triggering the final round or LCP (which I suppose matters less as the player count increases). That being said I do often lose to players who gather 4+ ticket...

How would you describe playstyles?

In chess there are labels like positional vs tactical, aggressive vs solid, etc. Of course TTR is a different game and deserves its own terms. Here are a few I came up with, although (like chess) they vary in effectiveness based on the situation: - Aggressive vs Defensive: reducing opponent score / ...

Re: Blocking on purpose.

I’m late to this but wanted to share my perspective on blocking. Anyone who complains about blocking comes across as a sore loser. Ticket to ride is a game of strategy where the object is to have more points than your opponent, not to complete the most destinations. Blocking is a crucial component ...

Can we have more details on game logs?

Currently, there are many replay events not captured in the game log. I think reading game logs is much faster than going through the full replay and I would prefer for there to be more details here, especially for initially dealt cards / keeping destinations / taking face-up cards. Here is an examp...

Re: Unfair Game Algorithm

Even if the original hypothesis is true (higher ranked players get tickets with higher point values), it would not be unfair if it applied equally to all users. The physical game favors certain players even more: "The player who is the most experienced traveler goes first."
