Isn't arena based on your rank? So you'll have to grind to a higher rank to play against better players. Higher rank doesn't necessarily mean you'll face the best but they'd need to be experienced to get there and the percentage of better players would then be higher.

Click the Options tab (it's below the game board). You'll see one section for Preferences and one for Game Options. Under Preferences, you can disable confirmations, and you can speed up animations.
