People may not always see the greeting. It's certainly happened to me that I only saw chat messages later on, especially in asynchronous games when I cycle through tables where I need to make a move.

I haven't blocked anyone and haven't had bad interactions with opponents on this site, but I've also only been here for a few months and do play a fair amount with real life friends who don't live close. To ensure that voters have first hand experience with all of the candidates they vote for or against, and probably to incentivize people to go outside of the comfort zone and try out new games. The latter is working on me. I've already tried a few of the games on the list...
