Losing ELO for Perfect 2P Games?

Is this a bug or a "feature" of the new ELO system? If it's a feature, can someone point me to an comment from BGA on their reasoning? I have over 1100 ELO. I play regularly with Victum, who has over 1000 ELO. I'm trying to get better at 2P Hanabi, so we've played a few games recently. I'v...

Re: 🌿ELO System Updates

I think ELO in coop games is still useful in that it gives a feel for how much someone has played. Players play different clues in Just One if someone is well experienced vs a beginner. Same in Hanabi (which I've not played) going from recent comments here. So what if someone has a lot of ELO amass...

Re: 🌿ELO System Updates

I would like to thank you all for your feedback on this subject. I continue to regularly read your messages. Thank you for responding. However, you didn't mention Invisible ELO for cooperative games like Hanabi. Right now, low level players who don't get a perfect game don't know if they are improv...

Re: No ELO?

There is no way to correctly balance elo this way. Who says that 2p is easier than 3p or 4p? How much easier? Same for black vs flamboyant... I'd say that 2p+Multi+Black is much harder than 4p+Multi+Black because you have less room in players hands to save cards so you more likely have to let somet...

Re: No ELO?

I don't really understand this move to be perfectly honest. By hiding away players specific ELO's makes it much harder to tell what skill level they actually are. An average ranked player could be someone who is really bad, got over the 100 line and now can't go below due to the rules or they could...

Re: 🌿ELO System Updates

Ah, I see. I didn't realise there would be anyone with high ELO at Hanabi who wasn't playing with conventions (although it may be that Hanabi was doing the coop thing where ELO comes more from games played, although some of your comments seem to suggest that it is based on win/lose/score/etc.). I d...

Re: 🌿ELO System Updates

I owned Hanabi IRL before joining BGA and I'd played it... maybe 20-30 times. We'd never heard of conventions, we just played casually I guess you'd say. ... I went to read in ~the forums and discovered conventions, and ultimately decided I wouldn't be playing Hanabi on BGA anymore. I hear you! We ...

Re: Where are definitions of the conventions?

Thanks for the clarification that chop focus allows finesses (and it's my understanding that a 5 clue in the early game is a stall and not a finesse) But I'm not sure about the mixed signals around chop focus, and the idea that sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't. I started with the H-group conv...

Re: No ELO?

Yes. I missed the post too. It is well explained though. You can find it in announcements. Is it, though? Do you accept their explanation that invisible ELO is better for the Hanabi community because we shouldn't be so competitive, so they unilaterally decided to remove it without consulting said c...

Re: 🌿ELO System Updates

https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=162021#p162021 To give credit where credit is due, the new system for player repetition has caught a cheater. That's a point in the update's favor to be fair. Decreasing the K factor would have achieved the same positive result, without the negatives...
