Re: Why ELO doesn't suit to BGA

I said little luck, not "no luck" I know what you said. I wasn't referring to no luck games only. So how do you argue on this, you know all the 83000 games out there? I was referring to BGA games (I thought it was quite obvious). I know the most of the games on BGA. The most of the games ...

OMG. :o
This may be true for some very simple games. However, in the most of the games this is not even remotely true.

Re: Why ELO doesn't suit to BGA

I have permanently several turn-based games in progress and, believe me, I do not spend more time planning a move than I would in real-time mode (although, I should sometimes ;) ). I often jump from one table to the other one, and play fast. It also often happens that the opponent is online at the ...

Re: Why ELO doesn't suit to BGA

Again, if someone wants to argue on the fact the 2 styles requires different skills…I am all ears. I agree there is some difference in required skills for turn-based and real-time mode. I just don't think it is such a big deal. I have played real-time games on BGA for quite a long time. Then I swit...

Re: Why ELO doesn't suit to BGA

The only games with a decent rankings are the new ones : for most of the recent games, top players have all played a significant number of games and no one is "defending a position" => This is what incite me to recreate these conditions for all games at each seasons. The new games are pla...

Well, that's exactly what the majority of people here (including me) have proposed. Keep the Elo as it is, and don't use it for rankings (and prestige points).

Re: Why ELO doesn't suit to BGA

My idea is to leave the elo system as it is ... Then I would also introduce sort of seasonal contests but with tournaments... Thanks for your post Zetes, there are some very interesting ideas. I like the idea of official seasonal tournaments. Tournaments are already very popular, it would be great ...

Re: Why ELO doesn't suit to BGA

Well, as I said, we will do a test, and if it does not solve issues we're not going to continue it. Ranking is a very complicated thing and we cannot determine a good solution only by arguing. I support the idea to change the current system, I agree with the objectives you are trying to accomplish,...

Exactly. The funny thing is they're doing it because they want people to play more. They don't realise that Elo decrease is a huge motivation killer.
