Re: The Best Can't Stop Strategy

It should be obvious that having all odd-numbered columns is a bad choice compared to having at least one even-numbered column. After all, having all odd-numbered columns requires at least one but no more than three odd numbers to be rolled, and for an odd number to be combined with the right even n...

What's your biggest comeback?

I just came back from way behind to win a game, and was obviously very lucky to do so. I took an early lead in the three-player arena game, but concentrated a bit too much on building my engine and stopped getting victory points in the process. That ended up almost costing me, as I ended up being in...

Re: To nil or not to nil?

It's definitely a safer one bid than a nil bid (trumping in on a third diamond trick), but that gets you nowhere compared to what a nil would. You just have to hope the spades aren't distributed evenly with each of the other players getting three, or hope that if another player has 4 or more that t...

Why show an option when it isn't available?

I have had connection problems that have caused me issues recently with several games here on BGA. I'm not sure if this is specific to Spades or if it is sitewide, but I have run across what I believe is the absolutely stupidest, most contradictory thing I have seen on the site. After reconnecting, ...

Highest last place score? Highest combined score?

I just finished this game, where the last (4th) place finisher ended up with 62 points, and the total combined score for the four of us was 263. https://boardgamearena.com/gamereview?table=487671169 I was fortunate enough to come back to win, as I was the last to reach 40 points. Has anyone seen suc...

tcarlaw wrote: 20 January 2024, 22:00 I like the basis of your analysis that it is only possible to tie once above 500. What if the last hand you describe was repeated twice, 499 vs 469 with a tie at 699, and then the same hand for 929 vs 899.
Yep, that beats mine.

Re: Could this be the highest Spades score in BGA history?

I think I figured out the highest theoretical final score for a Spades game here. 889-859. How did I get that? It starts with the score being 499 to 498. Both teams then have one 6 bid and one nil bid and all bids are made. The team that started at 498 gets the bag, giving both teams a score of 659....

Could this be the highest Spades score in BGA history?

I present to you, a Spades game with the final score of 695-685. https://boardgamearena.com/8/spades?table=461626054 The score going into the second-to-last hand was our opponents' 495 vs. our 425. I bid nil with my partner (GusyGus) bidding 5. Our opponents bid 8. We all got our bids, resulting in ...

Re: The worst Yahtzee I’ve ever played.

I beleive it's on your 9th game, that you're guaranteed to win the game and get yahtzee. But if you're playing some else that also lost 8 games in a row, then you both just don't stop getting Yahtzee, one after each other, every turn and it all gets a bit messy, It's at this point you may have to a...
