Whoever goes first has an unfair advantage in the game as long as they simply draw 3 cards and pass. I just played 6 games in a row going second, and only won 3 of them because my opponent played a card other than avenger round one. I'm pretty sure if you pulled the stats from any player above 1800, the player going second will win by a heavy majority. It is such an incredible advantage, that games between equal players are nearly completely determined by this. Even if a player starting with the advantage token manages to lose ...

Is it my imagination, or do you receive more ELO when you win going first?

If not, this should be. Nice counter weight to the disadvantage of going first.
