Re: Player skipped a third player 94% completion and cost me a win
This particular case presents an especially weak argument for skipping. The person skipping had no other way to win.
Maybe the argument for skipping is strong, but your understanding of the reason is incorrect. In a single player game, if I've obviously lost, I tend to let my oppon...

Re: Should social birds count as a new turn for the timer?

Suppose you are playing turn-based, and say you choose 1 turn per day because you can only log in once per day. Suppose a 4-player game. You make your move and log out, now you got 1 day for your next move. Player #2 immediately makes a move and you get the chance to react. Next day, you log in, re...

Re: Should social birds count as a new turn for the timer?

It is possible that social birds such as hummingbirds reset the clock. But it is definitely not true that each action resets the clock. I just had a game where I had 4 brown power birds in the grassland, so each turn, I was laying 4 eggs and then activating each brown power. My clock never reset at...

Re: Should social birds count as a new turn for the timer?

I don't agree with some of these points. "Timers per game turn are much more consistent" Timers per "game turn" would be much less consistent, and more unpredictable. Different games would define what counts as a "turn" in different ways, and it wouldn't always be obvi...

Re: Should social birds count as a new turn for the timer?

There are some good points in this thread, so thanks for engaging! Maybe the biggest point is just that it's too difficult to have something consistent across games. I don't play too many different BGA games, so don't immediately have thoughts about how to define a more consistent mechanic across ga...

Re: Should social birds count as a new turn for the timer?

Fair point about that being how BGA works, and maybe there's no good way around it. But in the game description, when it says you get +0:38 per turn, I think it's very clear that the intended interpretation is that you get an additional 38 seconds for each "turn of wingspan", not for each ...

Re: Discards face-up?

In games with hidden information, I find it odd that discards would be faceup when there is no reason - but apparently it is a lot more common than I thought. Not trying to pile on here, just something else to consider: The final statement about it being odd to have discards face up when there is *...

Should social birds count as a new turn for the timer?

I recently noticed that some birds (e.g. a humming bird) give players a full turn worth of time when they activate. E.g. in fast mode you get +0:38 per turn, but a "turn" is not defined the way I expect, and activating a humming bird counts as a new turn and gives players +0:38 to their ti...

Re: ELO SYSTEM

I think when talking about the rating system it's very important to decide upfront if the discussion is about one particular game, or all the BGA games. The/an "ideal rating system" for a game like Caylus (a no-luck game when played with 2 players) is probably very different than the/an &q...
