Got it, thanks. Shouldn't it be thinking time per move?
Or increasing your thinking time after making a move?

That's the problem of tournament. Tournament organizers want to have a schedule that fits each game into X days. So if you make a time per move time setting, you can't be sure when the game finishes in many games. That's why they put a fixed total thinking time.

Biggest problem is probably that many people join tournaments with a time limit they can't meet/guarantee to be available enough. So others suffer from bad results when one player times out.

I’ve faced the same problem a few times, but currently I'm playing a tournament where I’ve been third out of four players three times already because some players were playing slow and the game time was up.

I would suggest that the problem be solved as follows:

- Players who play slowly two games in a row in a tournament should be eliminated from the tournament immediately.
- After the time expires, players who have exceeded the time are automatically placed in the worst places
- the ranking of Players who have not exceeded the time should be determined by their score at that time (this will motivate all players to play seriously until the end).

I hope that some of the administrators reads what we are writing and that he will pass it on to someone who is in charge of maintaining the BGA platform.

This just happened to me in the Incan Gold tournament and I was so disappointed. It was my first tournament. I had done really well and was going to be first. We were on the final round of the game with 18hours left and 1 player just never came back.

Incan gold tournament only gave 12hrs to each player, so considering we have to sleep, all of us had used up our time of course.

It was very unfair and makes me not want to play tournaments anymore. Why should I put so much work into checking the site for my turn (since there are no mobile notifications…) and thinking about my strategy if most likely someone is just going to time out our game?? It’s a waste of my time, literally.

I’m playing an Agricola game right now where the same thing is happening but I can’t withdraw without penalty. I don’t want to waste my time again so I won’t be playing anymore tournaments until this is changed. It’s a BAD system.

This is not a good solution. There are so many games where current score does not reflect win chances. So what you're doing is you artificially increase the value of grabbing early points instead of building a good economy that scores many more points later in the game (or whatever similar mechanism the game has). That's not in the spirit of the game. You would need an individual solution for every game.

But I give you that it would be a solution for SOME games. Maybe there should be the option to flag this on tournament creation when it makes sense. But I think on many many games it does not. As painful as it is: The implemented "least used thinking time"-tie-breaker is the only universal solution I can think of that is not meddling with game strategy. At least until we have a universal game-AI that simulates game finish and calculate win-chance-% from that :D

The problem is that there are tournament creators that think these crazy time-settings are realistic AND also the problem is people actually join such tournaments that are destined to collapse like that.

Trust me, it won’t happen again. I’m not joining anymore tournaments like that. I might join real-time tournaments but the time-based tournament rules are not fair to dedicated players.

You can see in the tournament settings, how much time is alottet to each player. So you can try a tournament that gives more time. Like 5 days or so. It still happens then sometimes but at least there's a chance it works out.

There are mobile notifications. That doesn't mean the other problems mentioned in this thread aren't real issues, but that isn't one of them.

That pages says: Sorry, web push notifications are not supported on your browser.

It doesn’t like safari apparently.
