Luck in board games

Post by euklid314 »

By coincidence I came across a nice video sequence of a backgammon game:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqLOTQ5qI94

The clip shows a 1 in 17million event in a professional backgammon game - in an extremely critical game situation. It is rolled with physical dice (precision dice) so one cannot blame a random number generator. :-)

The author of the video is the world no.1 backgammon player (Mochy).

If anybody has video evidence of some other lucky events in board games that are similar in (low) probability I would be interested to see. :-)

Her D6 privileges expired, it's her own fault for not paying the appropriate fee and being stuck with D3 dice.

Clearly a conspiracy.

If they wanted to fix the lottery numbers, then they could have chosen any numbers, not 5,6,7,8,9,10.

And also the chance of getting those numbers is the same as the chance of every other passed lottery result, why do they think that one is particularly weird?
If they think the odds of getting 5-10 is too much of a coincidence, then they shouldn't be playing the lottery in the first place.
This is the most common misconceptions of random chance all rolled into one.

I got a 1/50k today on the crew (for me, and any color, for those who don't play the crew, there is 9blue cards and 40cards): https://www.zupimages.net/up/21/47/mbxs.jpg

Which is funny, because that number is still not that high, contrary to what I though.

9blues is 1/6.8M, still a long road to reach it. (1/135 games with 8blues will have 9blues)
