Tun-based games are also a great way to try out different number of players . Some real time games are hard to get started if the number of player are required are many or maximum, but with turn based games, its not a problem. I play most games with the maximum number of players, something that in real life or in ''real time' I might not be able to experience.

What has been your experience? Many games have a maximum number of players that makes it an awful game if you actually play with that many. For example, the Carcassonne Big Box comes with extra meeples to let you play with up to 8 players, but even playing with 6 (as I've done) is not much fun (putting aside the amount of time between turns getting out of control).

My experience has been very enjoyable, playing with maximum number of players, turn-based, so the waiting time is not much of a problem as I log in, make a move, then log in later or next day and it's miy turn again. I've played max numbers in 7 Wonders (getting good at it), Viticulture, Splendor, etc. Haven't tried Carcasson yet.
