What do the game Options really mean

Hi, it is unclear what exactly - like word for word in effect do options like Random map, Fixed map, Variable map and drafting really mean.

Fixed map: The map is set up as in the introductory rules. With fixed factions, players will also use the factions given in the introductory rules.

Variable map: The tiles are arranged as in the variant rules.

Random map: A map is generated using tiles that do not exist in the physical game.
