Forced to pay the higher BGA Premium price now?

Post by guissmo »

My Premium expired and cannot be automatically renewed, presumably because I got a new debit card this year.

I don't easily see a way to update my payment method and keep my cheaper old rate.

Am I forced to pay with the more expensive prices now, despite being a loyal user here for more than half a decade?

Yep. See the other couple of threads with exactly the same subject

Yes, that is generally how price increases work for any service.

Thank you for your responses. In contrast, a lot of services also offer the lower price for their long-term clients. And I thought that was also the case for BGA. The message they sent out seemed to give this idea but I guess it wasn't finally the case.

Except that when they announced the prince increases they essentially said that if you already had a premium membership and retained it you would be grandfathered into the original pricing structure.

I'm brand new, so I don't know what the price used to be but the way I looked at it is that I could buy a new board game for $44, if it's on the lower end of the price spectrum, or I could pay for a year of premium and try 20 new board games.

It's difficult to try new games in person these days if you don't have a close friend who already owns it so I may end up disliking the game I buy. This way I can try them out and buy the one I like the best.

Not only that, but I also get a whole community of people to play the games with so I absolutely do not mind paying the premium price.

Maybe instead of saying oh I paid this before and now I have to pay this much more, just think about what you would be missing out on if you don't pay for it, or what it would cost for the next best thing and you can decide if it's worthwhile based on that.

Maybe things are different where you are. I've never heard of a company forcing you into a new rate structure because your bank has issued you a new credit card. My cell phone carrier allows me to enter multiple payment methods. I don't have to reset my contract and accept a new rate just to switch between them.

This is all just rationalization. It doesn't change what we were told by the BGA admins.
What if I subscribe to Monthly/ Yearly before November 1st?

You will subscribe with the current price (24$ annually, or 4$ each month), and you will keep these prices after the November 1st price update, as long as you do not cancel your membership.
