Are more wargames coming?

Post by TexArcher »

I know a lot of gamers don't care about wargames, but there's also a subset of gamers who *only* play wargames. And a lot of the implementations of classic wargames on Steam are, well, not great. And yeah, there's Vassal, but the opportunity to play live or async with immediate match-making would probably lure a fairly substantial number of new subscribers...

I'd play any of these regularly:

Commands & Colors: Ancients
Commands & Colors: Napoleonics
Memoir '44
Hannibal (personal favorite)
War of the Ring
Combat Commander: Europe
1775: Rebellion
Washington's War
Sekigahara
Hammer of the Scots
Star Wars: Rebellion

I would play all of the games listed but I think a perfect addition to BGA would be Memoir '44. They might be ignoring it because it's a scenario based game, or because of the amount of expansions. I hope they would consider it though since it's the best mass market wargame I've come across.

Or, just as for many games, probably they don't have a license agreement.

They don’t have a license for any game until they get it…

So far, I'm the only person crazy enough to have developed wargames on BGA:

- Unconditional Surrender! World War 2 in Europe
- TALON
- Space empires: 4X

Last two ones are still in ALPHA and need testers, you're welcome.

Well there is a list of more than 200 available licenses and memoir 44 is not one of them, that's what i was saying.

Memoir 44 is availaible on Steam and it's not free.
So I think that licence will not be granted to BGA.
That's my opinion :ugeek:

But GMT has granted 3 of my 3 claimed licences, great :D

Any chance you would/could do War of the Ring? The asynch side would lend itself perfectly to BGA as well as increase stickiness as we would be checking on turns consistently and more likely start new games b/c of that. Scythe (less war gamey tho) would be great too.

My prefered !!!! problem is the licence (ARES games is holding only physical game licence).
btw, I own an anniversary edition, same for battle of five armies.
