After your game ends you should be able to play new games

After my game ends (after last era), I can't do anything, including play trap cards etc.
The others keep playing until they are finished, that is fine.

However I can't play a new game, it says "You have a game in progress in another table!" and points me back to my Tapestry table.

In other games (such as King of Tokyo), once you are finished/eliminated, you can play other games, while the other players continue.

Can we have this in Tapestry as well?

You can’t. An opponent could play a tapestry card that let you do an action (like decide if you want to move on a track or place an income building)

As far as I remember, those are not allowed (i.e. when you're out, you don't take those "free" actions), the only thing you can do is gain passive VPs, for which you don't need to be at the table.
