A player at this table blocked you

Post by geewag »

Hi all,

I noticed this warning while trying to watch a Reversi turn-based game. I played 10 games(and won all of them) with the player that blocked me for no reason.

I understand that some players are bad losers and others avoid playing with stronger opponents. The table setup allows to avoid players by level or/and by reputation. I am fine with players avoiding me because of my experience in this game. But why restrict players without any evidence of wrong doing? Have I behaved badly by fairly winning the games?
If you think a player behaved badly during a game, you can give them a 'red thumb' at the end of the game. The effects of a red thumb are:

This player will not be able to play with you anymore (except if you meet in a tournament).
This player will not be able to send you private messages or watch your games as a spectator.
A red thumb may also contribute to lowering this player's reputation (see 'Reputation/Karma' for more details).

It's their RIGHT to red thumb u,so just forget about it and go on. I've been blocked by someone who I only played once with him and I won, then he blocked me lol. We didnt say anything at all, so it's not bad language /manner problem.

Yes, it is their right if it's given for a good reason. Red thumbs should be validated/reviewed.

Private red thumbs have no effect other that that you aren‘t matched against each other anymore, and are given for all sorts of more or less valid reasons.
Public red thumbs can reduce the karma if you get too many, but they are strongly limited in number one can give to others, so if you‘re not actually misbehaving, you should be safe there.

It can be several things. That it has bothered him that you have won. That you have been slower than I expected. That he does not like your style of play. That you said something that has bothered him. Either he was having a bad day or he didn't like your avatar. But a private negative does not affect you and does not have to be revised. There are thousands of players, does it affect you so much that you can't play with one?

Some people just leave a table, or refuse to start a game if a player that consistently beats them joins, apparently they only want to play against "weaker" players so they can win more easily. I guess some of them red-thumb "good" players to avoid being matched with them at all.

But why exactly is that a problem though? I mean, is it such a big deal that you couldn't spectate that table? Surely there are other tables you can watch.

Maybe they blocked you not because they lost to you, but because they didn't want to be spectated.

It is not only happening in one table. I am not aware of some setting that blocks spectators. I cannot see any game in progress played by the user that blocked me. Fortunately I can replay the game after it ends.

I have not problem if somebody does not want to play with me because I can affect their ratings or that the chat is disabled. What I don't like it is the restriction. If other players that I like play with the "blocker", I cannot watch their game. It is not fair, one player blocks me and the other not. It is 50%-50%. Restrict watching if both players blocked me.

Does the restriction works in both ways? The player that blocked me can watch my games while I play them? If not, make it work in both ways.

Well, you can block them too, if them watching your game annoy you so much.
