Personally I'd still like to see it be even stricter, it's not hard to maintain a very good reputation, but at least excluding the very worst reputation players is a very good step forward.
FWIW, I'm of exactly the opposite opinion -- I find this to be unnecessary and draconian:

(1) Unnecessary: if seems to me that I already had the option to avoid low-reputation players in Arena mode in my Arena mode game prefs, so this is less flexible.
(2) Draconian: I play some games (like Spades) where there are very few active players, and it seems to me that this season I'm finding it more difficult than ever to find enough partners to get a game together. (Difficult as in waiting 30-60 minutes for a realtime game.)

How about this -- would it achieve the same purpose to rescind the reputation restriction, but make the default Arena mode setting for all players be to only allow players with >50% karma? That way those players (like me) who are having difficulty getting a game together could continue to have the option to relax it on a game-by-game basis. (e.g., I could relax it for Spades, but keep the restriction for Can't Stop)

Why does the setting still exist to set the limit?

Unless a player Red Thumbs every Arena Player in a game, except 2 or 3 friends, in order to be set up only with those 2 or 3 (a thing I personally find hard to realise), red thumbs should be respected.

As you put it: if player A hates player B (B having A red thumbed) and are set together in a 5 players arena game... if A's goal is to make B's life hell in every single Arena game (game-wise), how is your "Arena RT ignorance" helping B?
You can make someone's life hell in Arena games, without chatbox, also.

If you go RT ignorance, you must also go INCOGNITO (no names shown until the end) !!!!!!!
And I am not sure BGA has the possibility or wish, to realise this.

I think Red Thumbs should be respected anywhere on BGA, sorry.

It's not fair to disrespect them, just 'cause it happens that you are given some RTs for various reasons, and can't play Arena with those people, in order to feed your Arena Ego.

Someone doesn't like you, accept BGA rules and being Red Thumbed (again, for various reasons), and move on with this selfish nonsense.
I'm sorry, but I don't use this forum often and I only see this message now. I'll try to answer briefly.

I know for sure of at least one player (who has even won a popular Arena season) who does this regularly in order to exclude every player he's not comfortable playing with. He gives people red thumbs if they use a strategy that makes him lose.

So yeah, you've totally missed the point, and what I said is quite urgent.
We cannot have a "competitive mode" that allows people to choose their opponents legally.
Honestly, I don't care if BGA will come up with an incognito mode, or whatever else.
We just deserve an Arena mode where players have no way to cheat the system and dodge opponents.
I have not missed your point at all.
I just consider it offensive.

All I say is that you disconsider the purpose of Red Thumbs in general, based on your Arena urge, and your experience (?) with 1 player.

In real life there is a word for situations when you oblige someone to do something he/she doesn't want to.
It starts with "R".

If I don't like you, I Red Thumb you so I won't have to deal with you ever again. Actually, I will do that right now.

If I am set up with you in Arena, I will feel psychologically attacked.
And for what? Just so you can win a few points at my expense? You can win those points playing with others who like you.

Bye.

STOP FORCING PEOPLE TO PLAY WITH PLAYERS WHO ATTACKED THEM.
The RTs used for Arena dodging are just a small part of the whole mass of RTs !
Asking BGA to remove RTs in Arena, just so you can be fixed with people who don't like you, ignoring all the reasons people give Red Thumbs for, is WRONG and it is against Human Rights.
Mate, what is it not clear to you about the fact that in a competitive ground you cannot choose your own opponents just by giving red thumbs to the other people?
I don't care if you like me or not. I don't care if maybe that day you got out of the wrong side of bed.
In a competitive ground you cannot dodge other players.

Think if some tennis player could decide which opponents to play with. They would choose weaker players and win tournaments for sure.

Going back in topic, my experience is not limited to a single player. If you read again what I wrote in the previous post, that was just a striking example of a player doing that regularly (I've seen him giving 1 red thumb every 2 matches, on average). But, that player aside, I've encountered other players doing the same, just not that often.

And honestly the fact that you've just given a red thumb to a player for the only reason that he does not agree with you (and you told the whole community about this), tells us much more than a thousand words.

It tells us that this red thumbs feature should be revised as soon as possible, because it is divisive and non-inclusive between the members of this community. It is also uneducative, because it induces people to give red thumbs to other players for silly reasons.

In real world, you cannot banish people for those silly reasons. Of course, you can decide not to invite them when you are with your friends playing board games. But in tournaments you have to put your grudges aside and you have to take into account that you may have to challenge them.

Anyways, I think this debate is becoming quite embarassing and useless. Nobody will do anything to fix the problems I've presented. So I will just give up and go back doing my job.

Congratulations to all of the winners of Season 6!

Better matchmaking experiment

During season 6, we did a 2 week experiment to try matching you with opponents from the same league (or not so far off).

There is no magic here: having better opponents always means waiting longer, so it created longer waiting delays.

The objective was successful in that the vast majority of the tables gathered people from the same league. We got some very interesting feedback from you during these weeks. It seems that the longer delay discouraged a lot of you, and that this experiment had to stop. Since then, the Arena has been just like it was before.

However, we are still not satisfied with the Arena matchmaking, and we plan to do another experiment during a future Arena season. Again, there is no magic: it will mean that you will be able to play less games, but with more appropriate opponents. However, contrary to this experiment and following your feedback, we will try to make sure the waiting time is predictable, so that the wait is less painful.

(to be continued...)
how about making it a settings option - so people can decide for themselves whether they want to wait longer , for an interesting game or dont ??

I believe that the red thumbs on itself are not a bad way to reprimande and motivate people. However, if players only give red thumbs and don't bother to give green thumbs, players are not given a fair opportuntiy to correct for past mistakes. For example, i've been given a few red thumbs (my mistake and apologies for not finishing a few games) and did my best to improve karma back to 100%. But now, after one relapse, my karma dropped a mind blowing 50% point to 50%! After one mistake! Does this sound fair?

The game log doesnt show any indication of any other player being out of time or getting kicked, except you.
