Following on a conversation that was started in chats. I'm going to list the official variants here and the homebrew variant I know of. The designer is curious about which of these people actually play with (and would therefore like available), as well as any other common variants we haven't heard of.

Official variants:
[*]English variant - during conflict/war/revolt, you cannot discard extraneous tiles that do not affect the outcome of the battle. That is, if you have no hope of winning you are not allowed to discard at all. If you can win, you can only discard the minimum number of tiles to effect victory. (yes, both uses of affect/effect are correct there :)
[*]Advanced board - from a later Mayfair edition. Just an alternate board. I'm unsure if there is one or two of these, i.e. if the FFG b-side board is the same as the Mayfair b-side board. Can anyone comment of if there are two or three official boards?
[*]Civ buildings - can place a building of the matching color when you create a line of 3 tiles of that color. The building doubles cubes awarded (i.e., 1 to 2) for tiles of that color placed into that kingdom. There is only one building of each color, and you can steal a building on the board by making a line of tiles longer than the line which the building currently sits on.
[*]Ziggurat (Mayfair) and Wonder (FFG): A cross (+) shaped monument, built according to the same rules (except you need a cross shape of matching tiles) rather than a square). Awards 1 cube of any color to the King (black leader) in that kingdom, at the end of that player's turn.

Homebrew variants:
[*]Open scoring / cube counts

(If anyone can advise on how to properly format a list here, I will revise)
