Netiquette - ONE click to kindness

Post by Ausnahmefehler »

Hey gamers,

my topic is probably some cringe old school problem. But I find it really disturbing, that more than 75 % of my opponents do not write anything in chat, although I start every game with a "Have fun, good luck" (in their chosen language). I have the strong feeling, that most people here don´t care about fundamental rules of communication and culture at all.
I mean, imagine one sits down at a RL-game-table for minutes, hours probably, and won´t even say "hello" to the opponents. Here, it´s just ONE mouse click to show some interest in one´s opponent. There are living human beings on the opposite sides, not bots.
I´d really appreciate BGA hosts to do some advertising for this matter as I am certain, everyone here prefers kindness for blindness - towards his or her own personality.

Have fun and good luck;)

extremely polite greeting
that's more like a basic human behavior. i'm also annoyed by such lack of civil interaction (especially in real-time game), but i'm progressively learning that many people here play game as an escape from reality, or also play an unhealthy number of turn-based where they simple don't even have time for that. But that's an already much debated topic here ...

I sometimes play from an old phone. It can handle most games, but everything is slow on loading. Opening the chat also takes some loading time and so does closing it afterwards. I might do it anyway sometimes. But I might not... because it is really annoying to do it. Especially when it's just a short game anyway.
I think there are many other reasons why people don't feel like greeting. It's nice when they do it. But if they don't, please don't overthink it :)

Others have already discussed the same theme, e. g. here: https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... 16&t=20705

But I also wanted to remark that I like your wordings:
