I do think that is a trick the site is missing, it would be great if a lot of the classic 52 card deck games were available here as an entry point. For reasons I've stated I'd avoid any of the gambling ones like Poker, Blackjack, Baccarat etc, but it feels odd that we've got Whist and Canasta variants on here, but not those games themselves. Maybe it would also be worth having any public domain game playable from the same IP address (since that concession was one made to publishers), but only in training mode or with ELO disabled so distant families could play them, which might tempt them to look around at other titles
Out of curiosity though have you tried showing your friends Saint Poker? That looks like an interesting way to use the poker card ranks in a hand management game, but I've never got to try it sadly so can't say for sure
I agree with you about having more classic card games as accessible entry points to Board Game Arena for those who don't play board games -- yet. Hearts and Spades are also here, but my group is not a trick-taking group so they have limited utility for me but could work for others.
I looked at Saint Poker and it's intriguing, but it seems to be a much more memory-intensive game (managing remembering what cards have been played, who played them, and then who took what cards back into their hands) than poker, which is more about estimating odds, interpreting betting patterns and reading people (at least the way we play). I know Saint Poker wouldn't fly, but yes, it does look like an interesting game.
Asmodee should just buy the rights to one of those old school compendium disks full of card games that used to sell back in the day, clean them up and post them. Then they'd have beaucoup card players visiting here, and maybe staying long enough to try some games and ultimately become Premium members. But maybe there's a reason corporate management doesn't want to try developing that market.
