Missing game (gomoku) from initial FTP setup

Post by pezzin0 »

Hi all,

I just logged in to my dev folder and I only see 2 initial games:

/hearts
/reversi
/tutorialpezzin

(the last one is my first test game).

In the wiki documentation here:
https://en.doc.boardgamearena.com/First ... BGA_Studio

you read about 3 initial games:

eversi, hearts, gomoku

Was gomoku removed from the startup script?

Thanks.

I don't have it either. I guess it has been removed

Yes. Gomoku didn't especially bring more than the "Reversi" tutorial, and the Gomoku project has been evolved by a developer beyond the initial "simple and straightforward" implementation, so it felt less appropriate to link it as a tutorial.

As a consequence, when we had to reinstall completely the studio in November, we started linking only Reversi and Hearts as tutorials. If you are interested in Gomoku, you can still get readonly access from the projects page (after selecting the "Already published" radio button).

Een, is it possible to not mount any games to initial folder? I think it is more confusing to new developers than anything else, as these are read only...
Tutorials do not actually need these projects, as you suppose to write code from the scratch (and for graphics we can modify totorials
to add step to requst read only access, which is good task to perform anyway)

Well it would definitely be possible to disable the script copying them, but the intent was to provide them, and along the years I'm not aware of anyone complaining to have them (in this thread the complaint is even the opposite, it's about one not being there).

So unless the feeling is mirrored by a lot of developers reading this thread, I think it's better to have them. Otherwise it would feel completely empty which would not be particularly engaging.
