How does it determine who gets 2nd/3rd place when the game ends by points/deaths and 2nd/3rd place are tied in points?

I thought it was turn order but that doesn't seem right since I've gotten 3rd going before and going after the person in first place. I also thought it might be health left which would make sense to me, but I also got 3rd place when I had more health left then the other person I was tied with.

I think it is 1st place for the winner(obviously), then the people who survived in order of VP won, and then the people who died, in order of VP won before they died.

If there are two players tied for 2nd in points, they tie for second if someone else gets to 20. For players who died, whoever died most recently finishes higher regardless of how many points the person who died earlier had.

I ended up tied for 2nd even though I had fewer points than both the other player tied for 2nd and the 4th place player. Your place is determined by when you die, not how many points you had when you died. If you died at the same time as someone, you share that place regardless of a difference in points:

1st hakuzi 8
2nd Meeplelowda 0
2nd pet_ar_kay 0
4th gizmobj 0

Notice that when you die, your score is shown as 0 in the game results, whereas gizmobj had scored 12 (but came in 4th), pet_ar_kay had scored 11, and I had scored 5 while still alive. Your score while alive is irrelevant to the final ranking if you die.

Short answer: yes.

Longer answer: Your ELO change is based on your current ELO relative to the other players and where you finished relative to them. It's not based solely where you finished. So not all 2nd places are equal.

Longest answer: Looking at the ELOs of the players in that game, the other 2nd place player, Thistle0212, was rated lower than the other three players. So they didn't lose as much ELO as you did by finishing behind the 1st place player, gained more ELO than you did by finishing ahead of the 4th place player, and gained ELO by tying YOU because ties are factored into ELO as well. You, on the other hand, were rated above everyone. But because you were rated well above (over 100 ELO points) the winner midtowncafe before this game you lost more points relative to them than you gained for beating Farfie. However, you also lost points relative to Thistle0212 because you tied someone who based on ELO ratings you should have beaten 69% of the time.

One thing about this having this systemmake this game play real differently than IRL. IRL before covid stopped alot of meetups, RARELY did you see someone win by XP. Now playing a tournament or even regular play see how strategy is different. IRL if someone is going on a winning run Players SMASH to get them dead. Here its all about rolling 3s so you can get 2nd place and not elo drop. I always enjoyed KOT irl, but have played little on here because the whole gladiatior, highlander "there can be only one" spirit is dead, and this game was not meant for 2 players it was designed large capacity so someone not left out, but a lone victor. There is no second place when you are dead lol
