What is the perfect turn based game on BGA?

Hi all, fairly new to using BGA on a 'regular' basis (addicted )

Straight to the point - I'm looking for suggestions for games that give you serious choices to make, or at least choices or choice, that makes your turn feel worthwhile when playing in Turn based mode.

Being new, I'm currently only limited to 5 games at once and one of these that I originally tried was 7 Wonders Architects - which although great in itself and quick and easy while playing live, isn't too great in turn based gaming when it takes a few days to take your turn - which consists of taking one card

So yeah, I'll take a look at Terra Mystica or Tapestry if people suggest something heavy like that, but I'm sure there are others out there?
(I'm thinking about Space Base? Because I believe it gives you something to do on everybody's turn?)

Any ideas? Let me know. Thank you

Conspiracy is maximum 15 turns so it goes pretty quick, even in turn based. And all informations are visible so you don't need to take notes.

Castles of Burgundy gives you a few things to do when your turn comes around. And Dice Forge I guess.

I'm thinking about Space Base? Because I believe it gives you something to do on everybody's turn?

Not really. In most cases your "decision" on other players turn is someting like taking 2 gold from your card on slot 7 or 2 gold from your cards on slots 3 and 4... But nevertheless it is a nice game

As games with something to consider on your turn, I would recommend
the medium weight games Stone Age, Kingdom Builder and Res Arcana,
the medium to heavy games Seasons and Troyes,
the abstract game Hive or
the deductive game 13 clues.
And of course nearly any heavy game would match your conditions.

It might be worth mentioning that since i originally posted this, I've jumped feet first into a Premium BGA membership which appears to do away with the 'limitations' on the amount of turn based games i can play. Weirdly, i don't recall seeing this advertised as a membership benefit? But it's probably there in plain site. Needless to say, I've now got more than enough games on the go at once, to give me something to worry about everytime i log in

First a belated welcome to the site! Hope you have lots of fun playing games here.

I've played many turn based games, and what trends to work well are two player roll and write games. Railroad Ink is my favourite, which I see you have now played. At two player the game starts and you take your turn (round 1). Later your opponent does the same, but as soon as they are done the dice re-roll and they play their round 2. When you return to the game you get to play your rounds 2 and 3. Then they play 3&4, you take 4&5, them 5&6, you 6&7 and finally they finish the game with round 7. So you've completed 7 meaningful rounds of careful dice placement with only 4 visits to the table. That's pretty economic for a turn based game. Two player matches the arena format too, so once you hit 100 Elo jump in there. I've met lots of super nice people there!

Other good roll and write games where the arena format is two player are Troyes Dice and Can't Stop Express. Number Drop also works really well two player but it switched to three players for this season for reasons that I disagreed with but hey ho. I'm sure there are several others out there too.

Away from roll and write games, Race for the Galaxy is immensely popular and plays well two player.

Since you are new to the site, playing realtime mode is probably best for learning how the site works.

Games that work for turn-based mode are games where everyone takes their turn at the same time (like 7 Wonders, Incan Gold, For Sale) or 2-player games (so you only have to wait for one player), or roll-and-write games like someone else mentioned. Games that last for a fixed number of moves work best in turn-based mode.

Games that are awful for turn-based mode are games where players take many small turns. I signed up for a 4 player "Lucky Numbers" tournament and it's averaging less than a turn per person per day. I would quit the tournament, but that would give a karma penalty. Worker placement games would also be awful for turn-based mode.
