Creating a Dobble variant

Post by Kbenoit »

Hi, I want to create a Dobble variant to learn, it could be seen as a teaching/studying method. The idea is to have different dimensions for each image and showing a different dimensions on each card. Lets say you have drawings of sums on a card (1+4, 3+3, 5+2) and drawings of subs on the other (8-5, 6-2, 9-3) to find the matching drawings, you need to make a bunch of math in your head while playing a game. It could be applied to writing with written words on one and images on the other, languages with french on one card and english on the other... As it can apply to about any subject, I think it's a great learning technic.

By the way, Dobble like game can be made with any number of symbols per cards:

I have some doubt about the potential of BoardGameArena for such project.
  1. Would it infringe on Asmodee's intellectual property ?
  2. Can people upload pictures to configure a board game ?
  3. Would it be possible to have a community per school ?
I dont think the 1st is a problem. The second and third probably need some work on the backend, but the idea might be worth it ?

1 Would it infringe on Asmodee's intellectual property ?

Depends what you are doing, graphics and names are copyritables, so you cannot use word Dobble or graphics from the game,
unless you actually implementing that game with license granted

If you planning to do a training program which is not a game - that is not allowed

2 Can people upload pictures to configure a board game ?

Players no. People like developers yes. Not during the game.

3 Would it be possible to have a community per school ?

This is very abstract. What is community? What is school? What it has to do with BGA?
To register player on bga you have to be 18+ (or something like that), so not sure what school you talking about

Well I thought BGA could fit, but the 18 years old limitation is a show stopper. Is BGA platform open source ?

I just found this post about the 10 years anniversary that says: "[...] we're also offering BoardGame Arena tools to many schools, institutions and libraries, all over the world.". That is exactly what I'm looking for, and it would really help BoardGame Arena to sell the service.
