Renamed by admin

Hi,

a friend of mine has been renamed by an admin, since someone had a complaint regarding his username. While the complaint itself is quite questionable (there are much More insulting usernames present on bga), I don’t want to discuss this here. The Message he got is: „please select a username that is appropriate“ - however he cannot change his username, since the Admins already changed it and bga allows only 1 change of the username. The admins did not react to his complaints yet.

Did someone already have a similar problem and found a solution or does he have to accept an admin-chosen username now?

If he reaches out to the support through the official channels, and makes a proposal for a new username, they will change it to his choosing.

Obviously if the new name is appropriate. BGA admins won't make a big fuss about this request for namechange, as your friend did indeed have not much say in the matter.

I looked through your friends list and I think i found the person you are talking about.
With the German knowledge i possess, I hardly understand why someone would be bothered by that Username.
Unless I am missing something (German is not my native tongue), the word "pregnant" shouldn't be such a fuss.
But oh well... if someone was offended by that username...

Check out „Kentucky Schreit F**“. And yes, moderation is fair imho (but OP didnt want to discuss this).

For the other thing: Dont really get it, but dont need to: Mods job is to decide whether a report actually needs moderation or not. And they decide to not do so in many cases. They‘ll handle as they seem fit.

Sounds fair to me, but don‘t know specifics, is there a solidarity campaign going for her? Then still would be political and changed probably, but at least no shady ambition behind the nickname choice.

I would like to point out another thing, though... I also reported the player.
I will not spell the username, but will make it obvious:

We all know, I think, there was a political-se*u*l scandal, recently, involving a Chinese Tennis player and her safety, after posting a message on Weibo, about a Chinese Politician, and then disappearing... for months.

Unless it is actually her, which... I doubt it, or even if it's another person with the same name, I do not consider that it's ok for someone to use the username of a public person whose safety is a (more or less) worldwide concern.
I mean... WTA cancelled all tennis tournaments in China, until she is proven safe, as a way of showing support.

I also want to say that I also reported because there was this unwritten (or written) rule that political things should not stay out of the site; and I find this particular recently-created username (at this moment only), or any username related to Ukraine-Russia conflict, or to WW2 or to any other political thing, a bad omen.

Let me know if I am overreacting, but I wanted to get a moderator's/administrator's attention faster.
If i am not correct in my thinking, I will gladly cancel the report.
