Board Game Arena is proud and happy to propose you Thermopyles, a game from Touko Tahkokallio (Eclipse).

Thermopyles is a co-op game designed especially for a very nice gaming event: the Cardboard & Sun 2013 event in Paros, Greece, organized by Boardgametravel.com. Boardgametravel.com is a very special travel company, that bring you on nice places for your holidays with a ton of board games! Of course, it's a good occasion to meet players for the whole world, including Touko Tahkokallio who will join the trip. A limited-edition print of Thermopyles will be given to each participant of the trip.

About the game: Thermopyles is a co-op game where you guide the courageous but gravely outnumbered Spartan army against a superior force - the invading Persians. On BGA, it is proposed as a solo game - the first solo game on BGA! It's a very simple and very quick card driven game. To win, choosing when to put your strongest units into battle is essential, as is knowing when to make a stand and when to consolidate your strength.

is there a reason why you can play this only solo? i was happy to finaly see a co-op game on BGA but it's not much of a co-op if i have to play all by myself isn't it?

Tried it twice. Seems entirely weighted towards the Persians. Am I missing something? Seems like astounding luck is the only way to earn a win.

About the co-op question: we think BGA platform is not well suited for multiplayersco-op games. Co-op games are nice when you are with your friends and can discuss a lot, but 80% of BGA players are playing with unknown and it's difficult to coordinate with the chat (imagine, at each step of the game: should I draw? Should I retreat?).

Another thing: this is an additional reason to participate to the trip, meet the designer and enjoy the game in real life

I couldn't agree more. Tried it like 10 times now and yet haven't won. Was very close once but had to roll a 4 or higher and didn't succeed. My strategy was to fight only when I had extra die (square 3 and 6) but that didn't help much either. Anyone have any tips how to beat the game or is it almost impossible to beat it if not incredibly lucky?

The game is a lot of luck, especially when the enemy has a card from 21 and you get everything 11 at 16.
I played 5 games, and in 1 time succeeded defeat more than half of the opponents.

Isn't nice when you win, your card die... when the opponent win, your card don't die.

well i think that if a game such as sabouter can work on BGA then a co-op could work too but of course it's your choice,i can understand reason number two and i don't want to argue about it

I just won 2 of my first 5. The trick is that hand card limit doesn't work, so there's no reason not to retreat immediately to 6.
