Hi guys, dunno why I'm not allowed to chat. I could read messages, type but there's just no 'send' button. I get a lot of hellos, gg, gl, etc. Pls know that I jus somehow not enabled to chat. If we ever played and u wished well or something, pls know that I wish u the same ☺️

I also enjoy having a little conversation. I usually send one of the prepackaged texts on BGA like "Good luck and have fun!" and in two thirds of the cases I get a friendly response :-)

Sometimes I also make comments about the course of the game or the name / avatar / language/ country of the other player. I've already had some very nice small talk!

But if people don't react, that's fine with me too. There can be so many reasons for this: They are new to BGA or the game, they don't know the language (or the abbreviations!) used, they are concentrating on their next move and don't want to overturn the time, they are tired from work or not in the mood for a conversation... So if people don't react, I don't think they're rude, but that they have a good reason to do so.

And if they do chat with me, I enjoy it!

Language is a source of misunderstanding. (Antoine de Saint-Exupery: The Little Prince) But it is also the source of understanding - it all depends on how you use it. :-)

Just as someone who is incidentally silent, I don't do it intentionally - I just usually have a video or song going on in the background and don't always notice the message. I would likely respond if I saw your message, but if my attention is already divided on the game and something else, it can be tricky to balance.

definitely not a rant but I want to express my feelings... I feel natural to say hello when I enter a room, a shop, and even online of course.

I started playing here a month ago... I noticed that usually players play well, in time and following the rules... But they don't even speak a single word. Not and hello, not a gg... Obviously they are not obliged and I haven't any expectation about a conversation. But I feel surprised about the absolute silence...

This evening, random play at a game, I say "good luck!". No reply. I win, I say gg. No reply. The other player propose to play again, I accept. He win. I say gg. No reply. Again, the proposition to play again. I rejected.

Definitely aware that all people are different and with the most varigated cultures and behaviour manners.

I'm happy to play. But happier when even a minumum of conversation is made.

End of my thoughts.
I agree totally, especially when others players are not on their mobile phone (you can see that next to their icon).
I say that because the ergonomics on mobile phone can be very hard, BGA app is not available on all IOS.

Having a chat does not hurt to me, even with just basic words.

Hi . . . a couple of weeks ago I joined a group called Talkative and friendly games . . . https://boardgamearena.com/group?id=1088438

So far I really like it . . . new members introduce themselves on the group message board . . . people post links to games restricted to the group . . . within a game people say "hello" and more.

Check it out . . . you can read the message board since it is a public group . . . join and give it a try . . . this may be just what you are looking for.

Thats what Arena mode is about

When playing real-time I'm usually more keen to say hi and GG, and maybe even bonus chatter if relevant and the other player(s) are so inclined.

But 99% of my playing is either turn-based Arena, where play is wholly asynchronous (although I usually send a GG anyways when I play the last move), or with friends/family while we're voice-talking on DIscord. So yes most of it is silent on-site.

I always open my games with 'good luck' or 'have fun' and end with 'gg' (let's not discuss this one once again :? ) or 'thanks for playing'. To me it feels strange to not say anything at all. Depending on how the game goes, I tend to add a little conversation, for example if I get extremely luck, the other player makes a strong move, ... Sometimes other players remain silent, sometimes they jump on the conversation wagon and we chat quite a bit.
