Add "Best of X" format within the "Single Elimination" format

Post by jjthejetplane246 »

There should be a way to have certain rounds (typically near the end) of a Single Elimination tournament be a "Best of 3" or "Best of X" format. This would make results more skill-based and open the door for more prestigious tournaments to utilize this option.

A lot of board games include randomness which can often times lead to the higher skilled player losing at a higher rate than desired. In more prestigious and/or larger tournament, having the last few rounds being decided on a fair bit of randomness can be frustrating for skilled players. Personally, I enjoy 7 Wonders Duel where the starting player and player with better wonders has an initial (and sometimes very large) advantage which something like a "Best of X" match would help alleviate.

100% agree. I think this is one of the most important features still missing in tournaments.

This would indeed be great especially for short and very luck-based games like Can't Stop, Dragonheart, Martian Dice and similar. For turn-based they could be started in parallel in order to not increase round-duration.
