Playing a rematch now changes settings

Post by hvg3akaek »

Hi,

I've been playing online for quite a few months now, and today it seems that certain settings are changing when I go to "Propose a Rematch". Previously, it opened up a new game with the same settings, but now, two specific ones are being changed:

- table access restrictions; and
- game speed.

This has made a number of my games I am trying to play with friends (on a "whenever you can" basis) default instead to some rather rapid "minutes per turn" setting.

As mentioned, this only seems to be happening from today, so has something changed? Is it a bug? Is there a new setting I have to click to stop it from doing this?

Thanks!

There was a change that boards without time limit(suggested to be only played with friends), can now reamly only be played with friends. This was changed due to abuse of the system.

Right, but even rematching with a friend changes the game settings and makes it a real time game instead.

There is a known bug that when you play again, it uses your last settings on lobby, instead of keeping the settings on the table you click restart.

Example :
You start a turn based game, simple mode
During this, you play a real-time arena
Your first games end, you try to play again/rematch
It will try to start it on real-time arena as it is your last lobby settings, even if you probably expect to start it with the settings used when you started that table.

There already is a report about this, I hope BGA admins will look at it somedays

(forget what I said if it's not exactly the same thing)

yeah, this bug is different and brand new as of today. I've proposed a rematch with friends using training mode for the past thousand or two games without issue. It's only today after they changed training mode to being exclusive for your friends that rematching with a friend in training mode changes that setting specifically and it happened both times I rematched

Yep, exactly. I mostly (95+%?) play with friends, and play without time limits. I've been doing through the COVID lockdowns, but yesterday, the rematch suddenly started making me play real time games...

Yes a complete pain and not announced.

a) Check the Game Speed entry. If it is not No Time Limit - with friends only then...
b) Click on the Restrict Table Access link (to the right of Players at this Table.
c) Go to the Restrict to Group dropdown and select My Friends and click OK
d) Go to Game Speed under Table Configuration and select No Time Limit - with friends only. If it doesn't let you do this one or more of the players is not your Friend. You will need to send them a Friend request, meanwhile select the least worst option which from memory is one turn every two days.

Note you MUST do this even if only playing a two player game with an official friend.

I hope once a game has been set up properly that the next rematch will work.

I have followed the discussion on this suggestion and understood it as two different game options:
1) Playing "No time limit" now restricted to friends only
2) Playing "Training mode" with anybody like before (including no time limit, no karma loss etc.)
I hope - contrary to your description - the 2) is still possible!

That was annouced in the "release" sub forum. This is probably an unexpected side effect of that new feature.

Training mode behaviour should not have been affected; the change was intended only for using "no time limit" with 'normal mode" (due to abuse).
If training mode is not preserved when rematching, it's a bug. We'll look into this for next release.
