I was bullied for winning!

Post by Dave from Kentucky »

I am maybe 3 months old in my year's subscription and I have no idea how to show the part of the chat conversation that I was bullied because of my gameplay in BANG!
I was the sheriff and after I got the renegade out of the game he started name calling.
He was critical of my play the entire game, then I turned my offensive focus on him, his goal in the game was to eliminate me. He claimed he was a BGA agent and was going to report my unorthodox game play... the Sheriff and Deputy won that game.
Now get this... my own deputy, partner that I won with was calling me clown and m0nkey and other names. And I increased his ELO.
I know they are reporting me and I want my side looked at. GOOD GRIEF, I thought games were supposed to be fun and the goal was to win by my own means and not by my opponent's wants.

You always get people that can’t handle that other players play not like they want…

But, I am being reported for it, because I appeared to favor another player, (which I also eliminated because he fooled me and was a foe). I'm tired of being reported

You can't be moderated for favoring someone in a game. Maybe it was something you said?

You can report them for aggressive chat. Either on their profile (upper right corner) or following the prompt when you give them a public red thumb.
Check out the Allround-League: https://boardgamearena.com/group?id=7870115 --> a league where you have matches of random games vs. other players in your group. Season 9 registration oct. '25.

I am sorry to hear you had an unpleasant experience at a BGA game table. With over 7 million users, unfortunately this does happen.

However, please do not use the Forums to call players out for misconduct. This is what the Moderation Reports are for.

To report a player, you should click the Red Thumb after the game and choose that you would like to make a report. If you need to report a player for a game after this, you can always go to their Profile and use the button in the top right corner to "Report this Player." Please copy-paste the table number into the appropriate field and mark all of the offensive lines in the chat so that our Moderation Team can review it and take appropriate measures.

If a player is misbehaving and claims to be a Moderator, this is very likely untrue. You can reference the list here: https://boardgamearena.com/team

The game should come with a warning.

social team deduction games do not play well with strangers.

The game is basically asking you to lie and back-stab. This is THE GAME.

Now how do you distinguish between in-game table talk and actual insults - it's very difficult.

Nobody should be being moderated for calling someone a clown.

This sounds like typical social deduction game nonsense. I've only played BANG once, live, with friends. It was a great experience. But I've played 100s of both live (at a gaming convention) and app-based games of werewolf and this happens *all the time*. In the live game, one of the players was literally in tears because of their history with another player *from a previous game*.

When you collect a bunch of random people (16 for online werewolf; possibly more live) in these types of games, chances are at least one of them is going to behave this way because it's semi-anonymous and there are no social consequences for being a jerk.

Red thumb them and move on with life.

the way the karma system and red thumbs work on this site is an absolute disgrace. I'm in favour of the concept, but the implementation is ripe for abuse and utterly unfair.
