Hello! I'm from Russia. I registered here quite recently. I did not look for politics here, but there are no places without politics now. I described my attitude to what is happening in my profile. I will only speak for propaganda in Russia. First, people have been told this on TV for many years. We (all people) do not bother to verify all the facts that we have been continuously told for several decades, first on TV, then most people around. Secondly, we have almost no opportunity to receive other information. You tell me - turn on the Internet and everything is easy to find. But alternative information is designed for Western or Ukrainian readers. (There are exceptions) A Russian reader cannot read the news, where he is called offensive words in Russian. Also cannot understand news or analytics in other languages.
The situation is so bad that even if we have an open opportunity to see and read the truth, I think it will take a very long time to change people's thoughts.
Some of my friends have distanced themselves from me because I make arguments against the logic of propaganda.
Thanks for your post and statement. I think I generally can see how the situation is deeply ****** up on both sides, and it‘s good to also get some view from yours in this thread.
I wanted to say this here for quite a while already, now you give me a good opportunity: While I also can understand very well how personally affected people react more extreme, at the same time, I have a strong feeling that the ones that are the loudest here to put it all as simple as turning on the internet, are the ones that sit in their chair comfortably, in „democratic“ countries, brainwashed by capitalistic/neoliberal media and politics, and that never would consider to move a finger to change the slightest about it. Like going to a demonstration to push their government to act on climate change or for better refugee rights, even if this is (supposed to be) a human right there, without such a high risk to have personal consequences / be charged with high fines / be sent to prison for years as you seem to have it over there (which, unfortunately, isn‘t as clear even in a country as mine, but ppl as above neither know nor want to know about it, not to mention to act against such). Instead, they claim their right to not care and just live the wealth they were born into. Or feel this at risk from the bottom, as they are fed from top, and make sure to defend it as they can, which mostly is by making everything worse for the ones below them, as if it would improve their own situation. Or, best of all, take all their democratic liberties to fundamentally distrust everything official and instead run after the opinion of some random youtube video they saw, and see the world ending tomorrow because they need to wear a mask in public places (though, admittedly, they are unlikely to be on the side of the extreme russia haters here, but are much more likely to follow the russian propaganda).
I‘m rather convinced, and it‘s also pretty well backed up scientifically and historically, that sanctions and actions against people have no effect but to make their lives harder unintelligibly, and push them further towards their two-faced leader. No other effect it has if regular ppl are banned from game / porn / whatever pages, from which the ppl in power are affected 0. I also don‘t have a great solution about how to achieve much with this, given how ****** up the whole situation is, but keeping the dialogue up, so that ppl find together again, instead of further being split and brought up against themselves by their leaders, must be preferable, as nothing is solved here with hate.
Oh, and last but not least, the positions from the „democratic“ leaders and people with power could not be more hypocrite. From justifying their own wars with similar ********, over changing their opinions with the wind (yesterday, russian gas was the green way forward with all associated politics from russia ignored, today it‘s the worst evil and we run to get it from other dictators and murderers instead) and excluding areas from sanctions where it could backfire to their power, to circumvent/ignore them where they seem fit: The own good comes before everything else.
Still, ofc, nothing of this justifies aggressions against democratic countries and war and crimes against humanity, and I really hope this can come to some acceptable end in the sense of peace and democracy soon. Otherwise, a nuclear world war becomes more and more likely, and the reaction of BGA and what we all think about it becomes absolutely meaningless.
